This literature review examines the extant scientific literature on the insertion and maintenance of central venous catheters (CVCs) in the health and care setting.

It replaces the Insertion and Maintenance of Central Venous Catheters (CVCs) literature reviews for Adults (V3.0 Sep 2014) and Neonates (V1.0 Sep 2017) which were amalgamated and updated using a two-person methodology. Objectives have been added to address evidence on both insertion and maintenance of CVCs.
